Hermes Kuwait: I want my Birkin :p

Readers, did any of you or someone you know purchase a Hermes Birkin from their Kuwait store? If yes, when did you sign up for the "wish list" and how long did it take for them to call you?

Are you a Kuwaiti lady with a fabulous collection of Birkin bags? Send in some pics and I will post them anonymously for you.  :)

If you haven't been to Hermes in Kuwait you are missing out. Their K-Town branch is fabulous!!! Located inside the Al Hamra skyscraper which is the tallest building in Kuwait.

Buying from Hermes in Kuwait is TAX-FREE! It's absolutely cheaper to buy in Kuwait than any other country in the world.

* Please don't comment and say "they are so common now and everyone has them" because clearly you don't! ;P There are fakes everywhere and not too many of the real thing.  And don't say, "leather bags are (blah blah blah) when you are wearing some animal  product on your skin or you've just eaten one and now it's inside your tummy. :)  And YES, we donate $$$ and time to several charities and not just buying bags.

  1. OMG, are you insinuating that they are running a scam in Kuwait? Right now, alarm bells are going off and I want to run from my office to stop my daughter from going to this shop to put down a deposit on a bag. She told me the other day that she was going to do that for the convenience, although she was in London. What is going on? How long ago did you put your name on the reservation list, did you give them a deposit? This is why people actually fly to other countries to buy this type of merchandise. A few years ago a 'named brand' store in Salhiya Complex was actually selling fake merchandise and was closed down for a while until the matter was rendered. Yes, this is true. I know people that wrote to the headquarters in Europe complaining about the Kuwait stores. Yes, for those who do understand, everyone MUST have a Hermes bag in their closet!

    1. No, not at all. I'm just curious how long everyone is waiting on the "Wish List" here in Kuwait compared to other countries. BTW, Hermes does not take a deposit. You just fill out an information sheet for their “Wish List” which is really a waiting list for the bag you want. They will not even tell you the price until your bag comes into their store.

Celebrities get their usual perks but I’m hoping that wasta doesn’t come into play here in Kuwait. I would love some insight as to how long everyone is waiting. I know at least 4 expats waiting for either a Birkin or a Kelly.

    1. Chanel in Kuwait is much easier to order from than Hermes. When ordering a new Chanel classic we just waited a month or less. OB is the guy to go to @ Chanel and I don't deal with anyone else.

As I'm sure you already know Hermes bags like the Kelly and Birkin are the most difficult to buy directly from Hermes. I would never want to go somewhere else to buy one like Ebay or an auction. The bags have to come directly from the store. The Birkin and the Kelly take a lot longer to make by their craftsmen. You never hear of a Hermes bag having a defect but it's quite common for a Chanel. I really just want one Birkin and maybe a Kelly for my collection. I sent most of the bags home since I hardly ever use them here in Kuwait with my job. I'm definitely not a bag diva because I would rather travel to a new destination than carry a new designer bag.

  3. You should really pick up a grammar book, luv. Your use of apostrophes for plurals is frequent, and just ignorant. Did u study during English class, or were you too busy admiring your own reflection?

    1. Hahahahaha! Did someone burn their crumpets today, luv? I'm always too busy looking at my reflection to proof read my posts. That's why I have an editor for the blog. So blame him and not me. :) Now excuse me while I get back to my mirror.

  4. I've been on a list in Dubai for almost 2 years now. Not waiting for it, but if it ever does materialize I will be pleasantly surprised. Haven't bothered with the Kuwait store yet, but I hope you get yours very soon!!

  5. Update: My Hayati told me that my Kuwaiti Santa Claus will have my first Birkin bag (exactly the way I wanted it) from the Hermes store under my Christmas tree. He also said he's ordered me another one and would I like a Kelly too? And yes, I kissed his cheeks like 1000X. :)

    3. Could you do a post on how to spot a real designer bag from a fake? I'm sure by now you must have an eye for these things!

    4. My best advice is to always purchase your bag from the original store. When you buy a Hermes you also receive free spa treatments for life. That's important so you can maintain your bags longevity and beauty.

I can spot a fake Birkin easily and there are tons in Kuwait. They look pretty good. Dubai has really good copies. You can google how to spot a fake bag and there are several good threads on purse forum. Again, I would always purchase directly from the original store. I hope this helps. :)
