Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain have all ranked amongst the world’s top ten fattest nations with obesity rates expected to severely affect global food security, a new report has said.
The average person in Kuwait, the second fattest country in the world behind the United States, weighs in at approximately 77.5 kg, 15.5kg heavier than the global average, according to a research report published by BMC Public Health.
Gas-rich Qatar was ranked third globally with the average adult consuming just over 3,000 calories per day, followed by the UAE in fifth place (3017 calories) and Bahrain in tenth position (2889 calories).
The world’s adult population is getting increasingly fatter. The global population estimated to weigh a combined 287 million tonnes, 17 million tonnes of which is due to people being overweight, according to the research.
The rising number of obese people in the world will affect the world’s resources as much as another billion people would, causing a “major threat” to food security, scientists warned.
“Increasing biomass will have important implications for global resource requirements, including food demand, and the overall ecological footprint of our species,” said the report.
“Our scenarios suggest that global trends of increasing body mass will have important resource implications and that unchecked, increasing BMI could have the same implications for world energy requirements as an extra 473 million people. Tackling population fatness may be critical to world food security and ecological sustainability,” it added.
Despite only making up five per cent of the world's population, the United States accounts for almost one third of the world’s weight due to obesity. In contrast, Asia has just 61 percent of the world’s population but only 13 percent of the world's weight.
North Korea was ranked the world’s slimmest nation with an average weight of 49.5kg based on consumption of 2,342 calories per day. Nepal followed in second place, ahead of Sri Lanka and Vietnam at third and fourth place, respectively.

* Girls: Where are we going for lunch? I'm starving and craving a big, juicy, loaded burger, fries and shake.....! :)

and thats why am considering marrying a non kuwaiti. .
ReplyDeleteThat's a silly reason. There are so many gorgeous Kuwaiti women (beautiful inside and out) and you could be missing out.
DeleteI will tell you what I told my brother: Marry a beautiful woman from the inside with a pretty face. That way if she gets fat after childbirth she still has the pretty face and personality. If you marry just on weight you could end up with one fat ugly woman. (LOL!)
He was lucky enough to find all three traits (beautiful inside / out and model figure). * And yes she is a natural blonde and his sisters love her! :)
Hi 7amood... how YOU do'in? ;) LOOL
ReplyDeleteThe cartoon looks like my x and.... noooo, that's mean....
LOOOOL @ the ex cut-down. Oh he so deserves it!
DeleteWell that sucks! :p
ReplyDeleteTry being from #1 and possibly marrying #2! Our kids are doomed! (I give credit to @Randygoos for that line.) :)
DeleteWell, that proves what I have always said -- white is more slimming than black.
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha!
DeleteI was at Dubai Airport and saw this advertisement on the counter with a MEGA-MAC or a MEGA-Chicken burger, who eats that? It is basically two burgers piled on top of one another. I think this is what Mayor Bloomburg wanted banned in NYC. People just need to watch their diets, but this is criminal, it's like selling a fur-coat, we don't need either of them to live.
ReplyDeleteWell, I bet @TheDietNinja has tried it during one of his cheat meal sessions. :)
DeleteI believe that everyone is responsible for themselves once they reach a certain age. BUT the real criminals here are all those that profit from false advertising, incorrect labels and injecting our food with chemicals, preservatives and hormones. They make people fat and are laughing all the way to the bank! They probably also have shares in diet companies to profit from the aftermath.
What the GCC needs to do is to also ban these outrageous burgers and tell McDonalds to remove them from their menus. Nobody needs to eat such a monster burger like that, OK, freedom of choice, but that is criminal! They do have salads at McDonalds which is a healthy option. I realize that people living in the GCC have freedom of choice, but this is exploitation. In Terminal 1 in Dubai Airport, a cigarette company did a swanky business class lounge for smokers and it's free to all smokers in the airport, why, because people in the middle-east/south-east Asia have a large population of smokers and my objective is to sell cigarettes. Perfect example. I just detoxed, and one of the worst things you can eat is sugar, it is a drug, but hey, everybody wants a little sugar sometime. I guess everything in moderation. But most dieticians these days tell people not to eat anything white, that seems to generate calories. I worry about you with all your pictures from Fahaheel of food that you enjoy in Kuwait. Are you 200 pounds? I hope not:)
DeleteIt's really a thin line between baning these super sized foods and the freedom of choice. Parents really need to police their children. Adults need to do that job for themselves.
DeleteLOOOL! Hayati is around 215 pounds of sexiness. ;) He is also very tall for a Kuwaiti. He knows how to enjoy life without going overboard. Except for gifts. ;) We are rarely in Fahaheel. He can't stand that area. :)
