I know what you're thinking...The 4th of July celebrated in March?!? Well, that just sums up what it's like living in Kuwait. Nothing is what you expect it to be. And when you live in the hottest country in the world even our 4th of July celebration can be moved to another cooler, US Embassy approved day.

It was a nice gathering was there would've loved to have met you!
ReplyDeleteJax ~ I wasn't there. Next year you and Daddy need to sneak me in. :D
DeleteThat's so they and their families can escape Kuwait for the summer, they could hold it on the 4th of July. I am always astounded how quickly Americans embrace the Kuwait mentality here. The labor laws go out the window, Kuwait and American labor laws, and everyone forgets to even say 'thank you' or 'excuse me' in public. We are a friendly nation of people, with a sharp business sense, that involves superb customer service skills, so start acting American in Kuwait and maybe the people around you will have a better impression of the country. American companies are growing in success in Dubai because they have brought a new customer service style to the business community.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 11:25 -- considering there are a number of American Teachers working in the country they probably account for them leaving during their summer vacation. Additionally (and more importantly) to hold an American celebration at a US Embassy on the same holiday every year presents a serious security threat.
ReplyDeleteAs for the 'Kuwait mentality' are you implying Kuwaitis have no business sense or manners? And that all Americans do? Seriously? Where do you think the term 'ugly American' came from? We're quite arrogant when going abroad and often have the mentality "I'm American, they need to respect that and treat me like I'm special". Yet you claim it's the 'Kuwaiti mentality' causing us a bad reputation?
