American Killed In Egaila Flat
KUWAIT TIMES, Wednesday, March 22, 2012 (Link): A 49-year-old US citizen was stabbed to death at his residence in Egaila, said security sources. Preliminary investigations showed that since blood was found all over the apartment, and the body lay in the bedroom, the deceased must have fiercely resisted the murderer. A case was filed and further investigations are in progress.

There was a rumor going around at the US camps on Thursday that an unidentified American man was shot to death in Egaila. Yesterday in one of the Arab Language papers it mentioned that an American man committed suicide by cutting his wrists. Since the papers in Kuwait typically have different versions of the story we really don't know what happened. I will just pray for him and his family. If he was murdered I hope the Kuwaiti police catch the criminal quickly and that he/she will pay for their crime.

he killed himself. a packet of cigarettes was found next to the body. no foul play involved.
ReplyDeleteHow would u know wat was next to the body
DeleteIf you have thoughts of killing yourself - seek help outside Kuwait. Kuwait is a depressive environment where it can eat at your soul and it is not worth it to allow such a repulsive place to get the best of you. There are qualified phychologists in Dubai or take a trip back to the US where you can be in your home environment and get professional councelling. That is IF he truly killed himself. Also, the crime rate is out of control in this nation in comparison with neighboring GCC nations with a weak, ill-trained police force.
ReplyDeletethere are many qualified psychologists in kuwait and a psychiatrist trained at macgill in canada
ReplyDeleteif kuwait is too bad for you, like the last poster, maybe you should leave
I hate to comment as “Anonymous” as it seems so shady... Guess it is time to make a profile. I also didn’t want my first post here to be of this nature...
ReplyDeleteBut, SERIOUSLY? The comments in regard to this post are really strange. I think everyone needs to take the time to remember that this human being had a family and life that was taken from him. I believe it is general consensus by those that knew him (Mr. Cole if anyone cares to know his name) that suicide was not the case. And Cigarettes=Suicide? INSANE! If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. And “if kuwait is too bad for you..maybe you should leave.” Simply awful. There is enough hate in the world that you don’t need to add to it. One word... manners.
P.S. I do really enjoy your blog :)
I'm sorry for the loss of your friend and I hope that justice will prevail. Thank you for your comment and clarification.
DeleteI for one would really like to know what happened. And Id like to see justice done. Of course I may not but who ever killed him will pay, sooner or later. ALLAH say " live by sword, die by sword" I didnt say it HE did!
DeleteI would like to add to the comment posted above, Lee Cole was a good & decent man who had his life (TAKEN) from him. The dispicable thing about this tragedy, other than explaining this to his children, is that no one is mentioning the damage(INFLICTED) to his body. It was already said that there were SEVERAL wounds found on this man. I recognize what country I am in, & I also know who runs this country too, it's obvious. In the end of our lives we will all have to answer for what we did to our fellow man. No matter what GOD you serve, death is death, suicide is suicide, & murder is murder in his eyes. Having said that...........I hope & pray that the COLE family finds peace in Lee's absence, & the cause of his death is truly revealed.

For the Anonymous person that had negative comments about Kuwait. I am not publishing your comment because it was not appropriate for this post.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe in censorship but I could get in trouble for posting comments like that in this country. I hope you understand. Thank you.
I hope whoever is responsible gets what they deserve. I know usually in Kuwait Kuwaitis seem to be above the law , or at least their money buys them out of situations in which they should be tried and convicted just like they do the Filipinos, Indians,Nepalis, the Americans, and other foreign nationals. Americans working in Kuwait don't think you are big and bad they will only approach you in large groups I suggest keep a knife or two on you at all times. Women keep a man with you as well as a knife, if you've been to war you know danger is asymmetric be smart be a hard target . That knife and the way you present yourself may save your life. Remember if you have to use your knife it's already self defense femoral artery in the top of the thigh the aorta center mass of the chest and tHe carotid artery in the neck can kill in as quick as 4 minutes, I'd rather you be judged by 12 than carried by six.
ReplyDeleteIf you knew Lee Cole (Cubby to family), you know suicde was not the case. He had as view that life was meant to be lived with a humor and laugther. He wanted to exprience different people and cultures to know what this world was about and see the smiles it had to offer. He sincerely loved life. It's a shame it was taken from him so soon. We may never know what happened but we do know what did not!
ReplyDeleteI am truly sorry for your terrible loss. In Kuwait most Americans feel as if we share a kinship with each other. It's the feeling that you never meet an American stranger in Kuwait.
DeleteIt has been very upsetting that one of our 'brothers' in Kuwait has passed. I would like to send my condolences to you and your family.
Thank you for sharing your kindhearted words about your loved one.
I am a reporter for the newspaper Stars and Stripes, and am looking for information about this incident and for people who knew the victim. If you would like to speak or have information you'd like to pass along, please contact me at millhamm@estripes.osd.mil.
ReplyDeleteBest regards, Matt
looks like a case of murder, but as previously stated here in Kuwait it will be swept under the carpet as a suicide!
ReplyDeleteI have seen this type of coverage from the Kuwaiti news papers before. One paper telling the hard precise facts, the other, doing damage control, as directed from the ,"TOP."
ReplyDeleteQuestion: HOW MANY CUTS WERE FOUND ON MR.LEE, & HOW DEEP WERE THEY,& WHERE WERE THE CUTS LOCATED?
There are over a thousand Americans at the location Mr. Lee worked at alone, & I believe it is safe to say that the majority believe foul play was involved. Those who heard about his,"SUICIDE," only question it because of the locations of the cut(S). I hope & pray that when Mrs. Cole receives his body, she contacts the right people, & every news organization to let them see the damage done to his body, hopefully the US Government will finally step in and acknowledge what they already know.
As far as the gentleman from the stars & stripes, if you are the real deal, you won't have to look too far to get information about this tragedy. I would also take caution because exposing the truth in this country, especially when it comes to individuals with WASTA (CONNECTIONS)can sometimes have unintended results.
The gentleman from the Stars & Stripes is legit. In case anyone would like to contact him. He might be able to bring more attention to the case so that his family can find out what happened to their loved one.
DeleteWow!! the comments on here about Kuwait being depressing and and the crime rate and what not is ridiculous. Might I add that Im from the US and not Kuwait by the way. This is a trajic incident and I knw Mr coles family is hurting right now and whoever is responsible will eventually be held accountable. This killing sounds personal, thats just my opinion.... By the way Kuwait is much safer then the US, except for the driving, and there is nothing depressng about this place, I think its a very beautiful country and feel more safe out here then my own birth place or anywhere in the states. Im not saying to sleep out here or not be cautious but atleast I can walk out here with a hood on and not worried about looking suspicious then shot to death
ReplyDeleteI also feel safer in Kuwait minus the driving. I think the crazy driving cancels out everything. ;) Thank you for your comment.
DeleteAmen to that!
DeleteAmen to that!! Kuwait is not a depressing city but people may become depressed if they have anxieties because of their expectations when it comes to relationships here. They may have those anxieties wherever they live. I'm a US citizen and I find it more dangerous to live in the US than it is here in Kuwait; and the driving is just as bad there in some places than it is here.
DeleteMaybe in NYC they drive crazy but I've never seen anything like Kuwait in the US. Egypt is even worse. :)
DeleteWell as an investigative person myself, from evidence of the substantial wounds that was infflicted on his body premierly rules out any speculations of suicide. During my time as an investigator of forensic studies, it has been proven that men usually take a quicker less painful approach with it comes to suicide, ie guns, or afficiliation never have i know a man to stab himself so many times while bruising himself as well as the area the stab wounds were placed. I hope the optopsy proves the truth to matter and bring this case to close. My heart and soul goes out to the familes of mr Lee Cole.
ReplyDeleteto the idiots that say my cousin committed suicide is plain stupid he was murderd plain and simpleand to the person or persons that killed him God knows who you are you will pay.
ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry for your loss. There was only one Kuwaiti newspaper in Arabic that claimed suicide. The Kuwaiti English newspaper was more factual.
DeleteI pray that they find the person or persons that are responsible and that justice will prevail.
The word i'm hearing alot is he messed around with a married Kuwaiti chick. If so it seems obvious what happened from there and the Kuwaitis are lying and covering up the truth because god forbid a Kuwaiti chick would climb down her pedastool and mingle with a non Kuwaiti how embarrasing!
ReplyDeleteThere are many female Kuwaiti's married to non-Kuwaiti's.
DeleteIf what you say is true then this would be considered a "Honor Crime". There are even honor crimes in the US. I just pray that the family will find out the truth and for justice.
I use to work with lee at the time of his murder.. He was my next door neighbor. I know that he didn't commit suicide . It was a hit out on him by Kuwaits. I wish I knew who did this but it will come out. The Kuwaiti a do what they want and get away with everything... They need same laws for punishment and not rug sweeping.
ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry for what happened to your neighbor and co-worker. I heard yesterday that he was dating a married Kuwaiti woman and that it was a revenge crime. Whatever the reason murder is murder and against God. All those responsible must pay for their crime on earth in a court of law. If they do not then surely they will pay for it in Hell.
DeleteMy heart really goes out to his family and loved ones. He didn't deserve this at all. :(
