Mandatory Military Service For All Kuwait Citizens 18 Years and Above

Arab Times, Kuwait City, July 26, 2011: Citizens who are 18 years and above will be recruited for compulsory military service, and the decision takes effect after Ramadan, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting reliable sources.

The same sources explained that the Fatwa and Legislation Department had carefully studied the new law, and the period of service for degree holders will be 6 months while those with other specifications will serve for a full year.

Sources added the new law is devoid of the lapses in the compulsory military service law of 1980 which the National Assembly voted in 2001 to suspend. The new law will contribute to the development of the military institution. Sources said the sole breadwinners of families, disabled people and rare cases will be exempted from service.


Does this mean Kuwaiti girls over 18 as well?

  1. I'm totally for it. Let's return the military service, and for gender equality, let both genders in.
    I just realized that being older has benfits... I won't be called in :) :P

  2. That's some BS. I didn't study engineering for 5 years to come back and get yelled at, spat on, and cussed out by some two bit primary school educated deranged ass drill sergeant with a personality complex just as I'm about to start my professional career in hopes of eventually supporting a family. I shall summon a was6a of epic proportions. Although it may be worth it just for the gun shooting part so I guess I should do it.

    We already have a developed military institution. It's called Camp Arifjan. This superfluous military crash course won't make any difference. Recruiting fresh high school graduates, I can understand. But you can't just extract a grown man from his job, lock him up at some camp in the desert and force him to play GI Joe for a year. Amirite or amirite.
