Rest in Peace Beloved Friend

This morning I awoke to the devastating news that you had passed away dear friend. My heart is broken and I can’t believe you are gone. Kuwait will never be the same without your big smile and loving, brotherly kisses on my cheek. I know that you are looking down from heaven but those of us still here will miss you more than words can say.

Every time I hear this song on my iPod I will think of you and how much you loved this song.

Till we meet again beloved friend.

Race Row Over Fashion Bible Elle's Cover Shoot After Bollywood Actress' Skin is 'Whitened'

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Elle's cover

True beauty: The actress pictured in a more natural light

Elle magazine has stumbled into a race row after allegedly whitening the skin of a Bollywood actress on its cover.

Readers reacted with fury after it was suggested that the fashion magazine might have digitally ‘bleached’ the complexion of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a former Miss World who has also starred in Bride & Prejudice and The Pink Panther 2.

The 37-year-old appears on the cover of this month’s Indian edition of the magazine. However, her skin appears to be several shades lighter than her normal colour.

Inside the magazine, she is again pictured in a series of shots, all showing her with pale skin.

It is not the first time that Elle has been attacked for appearing to lighten the skin of its non-white models. In September this year, black actress Gabourey Sidibe appeared on the cover of the U.S. magazine with a much paler complexion. On that occasion Elle claimed it had not altered the Precious star’s skin any more than that of the other models photographed alongside her.

Fans have been posting angry comments online about the latest cover, with one saying: ‘It’s annoying because it seems like lighter skin is always in fashion as if darker skin is something to be frowned upon.’

Skin lightening is a controversial issue in India and those with a lighter complexion are often perceived to be more successful and wealthy. Skin-lightening products aimed at young men and women now form a multi-million-pound industry.

Yesterday, spokesmen for Mrs Bachchan and Elle were unavailable for comment.

Your natural, God given skin color is beautiful.  Advertisers make a lot of money by telling you lies.

Merry Christmas Kuwait

I want to wish all the bloggers and my readers a very 'Merry Christmas'.  May God bless you and yours.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your love and support. xoxo E&TC

Twas the Night before Christmas Poem

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Save The Christmas Trees

300 real Christmas trees available for pick-up in Kuwait

By Wendy Clayton, Staff Writer

Kuwait Times Article

KUWAIT, December 23, 2010: A lengthy customs process to release more than 300 Christmas trees from Shuwaikh port finally came to an end last night. The trees arrived in Kuwait more than a week ago but the long paperwork process meant the trees did not leave the port until last night. An excited Nicole Collins, who arranged the import of the trees, said she was relieved that the venture was finally going to be realized. "It's been a very frustrating process but people have been so supportive," said Collins. "It hasn't deterred me though.

I will do it again next year but advertise a little earlier. Now I know the process required by customs, hopefully next time it will be smoother." Customers had been notified on Dec 15 that the trees had been cleared and were scheduled to be available for pick-up beginning Dec 16. However, a distraught Collins had to notify everyone that there had been another glitch in customs and would take a few more days.

The Balsam Fir Christmas trees have come all the way from Nova Scotia, Canada in a humidity controlled 40 foot container. The trees range in size from six feet to 10 feet in height. Collins was not worried about the condition of the trees upon arrival but more about their availability before Christmas Day.

People began to gather at the pick-up point at the Waffle and Steak car park in Mangaf last night to await the arrival of the truck carrying the precious cargo. "The owners of Waffle and Steak have been fantastic," said Collins. "They have allowed us to use their premises for the pickup of the trees and to display them in the front of the store.

Cheers went up as the truck pulled into the car park. Once the container was offloaded the doors were opened, greeting everyone with the glorious aroma of fresh pine. "Now it feels like Christmas," said Sophia Collins, daughter of Nicole Collins. "I just want to dive in on the trees.

Arriving in Kuwait last night after being away working, Austrian Ralph Kindl said, "For me Christmas without a real tree isn't Christmas. When my wife picked me up from the airport and said we had to go straight to Mangaf to pick-up the tree I was excited." He added that although it wasn't an Austrian Christmas tree he was happy to have a Canadian one.

We have lots of trees left," said Collins. "It would be a shame if they didn't all get decorated. I'm encouraging everyone to come down to Mangaf and pick out one of our beautiful, fresh smelling Nova Scotia Christmas trees." Collins said that those who have trees already, real or artificial, should come take a look at the quality of the trees she has.

Christmas trees can be picked up from the Waffle and Steak car park on Gulf Road in Mangaf between 5pm - 10pm or call Nicole Collins at 9009-1103.

Kuwaiti's Always Ask Me This Question...

Common in Kuwait

Why are most American men with Filipinos in Kuwait?

This question always makes me giggle.  (Especially the look of bewilderment on their face.)

What would be your answer?

Something you never see in Kuwait

"Please don't tell my wife back in Georgia!"

I am So in Love with Him

I should feel completely homesick this Christmas season since I am so far from my family and loved ones. Instead I feel happy most of the time because he has done everything in his power to show me how much he loves me. He is more excited about Christmas than I am and he keeps reminding me how many days left until Christmas Eve.

He was so excited about buying me Christmas gifts which he picked out himself. He really is adorable and I have explained to him over and over that he is the only gift I want. I don't need anything else because he has already spoiled me rotten since the day we became more than friends. He keeps mentioning one big surprise for his princess that will make all my friends jealous. He actually said that to me and the way he says it is just precious and not pretentious at all. I haven’t told him that I’m like a little girl who can’t wait to see what Santa has left for her under the Christmas tree. I’m so curious and excited about his gifts but of course I would never let him know that. He is all I want and I came to this country never looking or expecting to find true love. In fact I was running from it instead of to it.

Today he told me he wrote a Christmas poem that he will read to me on Christmas day. He is very romantic and such an amazing writer. I decided not to travel until New Years Eve so I can spend Christmas week with him. He has agreed to give me more time to think about my future but as the days go by I realize that nobody could make me happier than he does.

I am so in love with him.
