Car Huggers: Desperate local men trying to get a girls attention by driving their car as close to yours as possible. Sometimes almost hitting your car.
Okay, this is normal behavior here, especially when a girl drives alone at night but my question is.... Isn't this the Holy Month of Ramadan? Shouldn't you show some respect during this month? After all, I am following your rules by not drinking water, chewing gum or eating in public from sunrise to sunset. I am dressing extra conservative and I didn't even have a stitch of makeup on except for transparent lip gloss. What happened next just ticked me off.
When I took my exit off 30 I noticed only one car was still following me and flashing his lights. I had to stop at the store but I didn't get out of my car, I just beeped and waited with my windows up. He pulls over and gets out of his SUV. Then the usual happened: blah blah blah. I just ignored until the man came to take my order and I cracked my window. Then I just lost it and told him off! (No cursing but strong words.) How could he be so disrespectful during Ramadan? He looked older, about 30 plus so I am sure he was married with children. Well I basically told him Ramadan Kareem and shame on you...it worked and he drove off.
Not less than five minutes later I pull off to continue my way to the restaurant when another car hugger is on my tail. This AH follows me all the way to the restaurant parking and approaches me when I am walking to the front door. Well, I said Ramadan Kareem again and told him off in a ladylike way (no curse words). His English wasn't as good as the other guys but the look on his face let me know he understood I was really ticked off. He ran off back to his car with his tail between his legs.
The point of my post is that if we as Expats are obligated to respect the laws of the Holy month of Ramadan then shouldn't the car huggers give us a month off from harassment? I'm just sayin' ;P

Shame on them :(
ReplyDeleteDon't show respect to these type of guys, Expat.
I'm sorry to hear about that but I'm sure those people will always exist and will continue act this way. I believe that the best way is to totally ignore them and if it gets worse just park the car and call the police.
ReplyDeletePreach it sister expat, preach it! Amen, hallelujah, amen!
ReplyDeleteI think that this is something expat and local girls go through but wat can we say ... as for me am waiting for a female car hugger ;)

ReplyDeleteHi Jewaira :D I should fine a good translator. Maybe Ali M?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Kuwaiti women experience this sexual harassment or is it just reserved for expats. Sad to see men not respecting women and Ramadan.
ReplyDeletedidn't know that "Ramadan Kareem" would have such an effect on disrespectful guys...good thinking there!
ReplyDeletelool ! well said ! same thing happend to me while i was heading to have fotoor at a restaurant !!!!! guys were going crazy on the gulf road!
ReplyDelete@ Bananamonkee ~ Yes, I see Kuwaiti women going through the same thing. I think that any woman (expat or local) who is breathing is a target. Loool.

ReplyDeleteHi, Im french and just arrived in kuwait (i mean for the last 4weeks)
ReplyDeletePeople from the office told me to be careful on road but as you, i discovered what meant 'be careful' yesterday night on the same 30road...
guys with cars on both sides, smiling like in cartoons, watching me as if my car was a museum and trying to prevent me from changing the traffic line...
all that just to say that what u did to that guy was great! i would ve loved to do the same yest. night but hopefully for them they didnt get out from their car!
Hi Layla :) Welcome to Kuwait. Loooool. Just ignore and if they try to follow you home then drive somewhere else for help. You really shouldn't confront them like I do sometimes. (I couldn't help myself that day they really ticked me off ;P) It's better to ignore. I hope you enjoy your time in Kuwait :D Thank you for your comment.
ReplyDeleteCar huggers! I had no idea it was this bad over there. Now I'm wondering what would happen in Saudi if they were to allow women to drive. The police already do absolutely nothing to enforce traffic rules..
ReplyDeleteWhat I would do is next time start taking a video clip of them on your phone, or at least take their pic and license plates, then report to police. Filming such perverts usually works for me, they get scared off. You could also lower your window and tell them the clip is going online and to the police.
Hi Laylah, thank you for stopping by. :) The Saudis car hug in Bahrain when they drive over the boarder. It's hilarious and scary at the same time. Many (not all) go there to drink so it's pretty dangerous. Taking a video would be a great idea but it's difficult to do so when driving.
